”Every so often the Ontario government does a review, or housecleaning, of its rules relating to pension plans. The pension world has been changing a lot in the last 10 years, and the old rules are not working like they should. It was not only timely but overdue for the government to pause and think about what may be needed for pension plans in Ontario over the next 10 years and beyond. In June, they did just that. Ontario will be introducing a new regulatory framework for multi-employer pension plans (MEPPs). New Rules and Regulations for the Labourers’ Pension Fund of Central and Eastern Canada were adopted as of March 1, 2015. The 2015 Rules and Regulations incorporate past amendments, make updates for statutory and regulatory changes, update some historical language as well as making other changes to the Fund’s Rules and Regulations. Returning to Work After Retirement
As of January 1, 2013, if you are a pensioner under age 71, and are collecting a monthly pension from the LPF, (with the exception of a Disability Pension) you will now have two options available to you if you return to work with an employer that is obligated to make pension contributions to the LPF (Covered Employment).
